Vasya Lozhkin is a phenomenon that combines many meanings and implications, a recognizable name, incredibly popular, a synonym for beauty and optimism!

What is the Vasya Lozhkin phenomenon all about? Why are his paintings popular? Why do they resonate with a multiplicity of what seem widely diverse audiences? The answer lies in a very peculiar strategy of “replaying” and migrating from one format to another: Vasya Lozhkin does easel paintings, but their aesthetics is connected with the visual culture of the Internet. In the interview, Alexei Kudelin often notes that "Vasya Lozhkin does not know how to draw ...". In no way does his artistic activity depend on the skills and rigorous working framework, usually laid down by professional education in the field of arts. Lozhkin's painting also has nothing to do with trends, schools and traditions, illuminated by the history of art.

Lozhkin's painting is original and unique. And yet certain are roots are traceable in Lozhkin's paintings - these are the genres of caricature and political poster. But we are talking about cultivating the soil, and not about style borrowing.
At the same time, regardless of the attitudes and intentions of the artist, the public uses his works in the formation of the symbolic and elitist status of painting. Indeed, for the majority, easel painting remains a serious and reputable art form that can be trusted. At the same time, for the same majority, the screen culture of the Internet and its accompanying interfaces turn out to be much more understandable and accessible than the structure of a painting composition that is difficult to understand. What explains the contradictory duality of perception of an uninitiated viewer? Nowadays, private artistic expression in the cyberspace is rarely perceived by such viewer as something solid and interesting. Intuitively understanding the nuances of the situation, Vasya Lozhkin brings together various formats to communicate with the viewer directly, i.e. without intermediaries. The result turns out to be witty, lively and very humane - but that's not all.

“Maybe fascination with non-human life forms has outlived itself? Maybe it is time to look at the everyday life of humans through the prism of the non-human?” This seems to be the message of the scenes on Lozhkin’s paintings if one’s imagination animates them. Then, perhaps, it will be possible to avoid reactionary ideologies, clumsy stereotypes and empty apathy.
In lieu of an epigraph

“My art is not primitivism in its broad sense. It is alive, it breathes”, Lozhkin declares. “I am not interested in the interplay of color and form, or something like that. I’m only interested in expressing basic human emotions: love, joy, tragedy, despair, and so on. And the fact that many people suddenly lose control, burst into strong language or laughing like crazy before my pictures means that I can communicate with these basic human emotions."
